KPH Construction has officially kicked off a $8.3 million MILCON (Military Construction) project at Volk Field Air National Guard Base in Camp Douglas, Wisconsin. KPH will renovate and expand the Volk Field Fire Station, bringing much-needed upgrades to vehicle bays, training areas, alarm room, kitchen, offices, and sleeping quarters. It will also better accommodate visiting unit firefighters who regularly support major training exercises.
Volk Field is a significant training facility and home to multiple units of the Wisconsin Air National Guard, including the 128th Air Control Squadron. It is also the location of the Volk Field Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC), one of four CRTCs in the United States, providing a year-round training environment for Air National Guard units, according to the Wisconsin Air National Guard.
The Volk Field Fire Department plays a vital role on base and throughout the region—providing paramedic and firefighting support to local municipalities, Interstates 90 & 94, wildland fire incidents, and more through mutual aid.
The project marks just the latest in several construction projects by KPH for the Wisconsin Air National Guard over the years.
The fire station is scheduled for completion in April 2026.
